The Mauretania

Took this photo of a huge original painting of the Mauretania leaving the Tyne. The painting is about 8' x 6' and it is in on the quarter deck of the QE2. It is a fantastic painting by artist Thomas M M Hemy (1908)

The end is nearing for 'The Cranes'

Swan Hunters Shipyard, once a thriving boatbuilders famous throughout the world is now closed... it's workforce all gone, the cranes are being moved to India and what is not needed are being scrapped. The signs of the Tyne are almost at their end. It is all so sad.....

Still in my 'negative' mode.......

I do love painting in the 'negative' and find it so therapeutic. When I start I never quite know how it is going to turn out and there have been quite a few attempts that have landed up in the waste bin.....

I scanned this one in and it looks more 'grainy' than it really is.
